Welcome to the Game Developer's Den! :(

Before you begin posting other threads, do tell us who you are, where you're from, what you do, and what your game dev skills are like in here.
Be as brief or as detailed as you like!

I'll get the ball rolling...

Name: Rohan Anchan | Age: 21 | Location: Dubai, UAE | Occupation: Student

Background: Got into Edith Cowan University (Perth, Western Australia) in 2007 after finishing my schooling in Dubai, and have just finished my Bachelor of Computer Science degree,
double-majoring in Games Programming and Software Engineering. Will be going on to do an additional one year Honours degree (Research) in Computer Science. Mostly interested in and have experience on the
programming side of things, but I do occasionally dabble in some artsy stuff as well.

That's me in a nutshell...Looking forward to hearing from more of you folks who share similar interests soon!

You're still young, pick something else, there's barely any jobs available with good salaries for 3D Animation/Gfx.

Someone plunged a dagger deep into God's chest

When he groaned it laid our entire civilization to rest

When he pulled out the dagger and marvelled at the pain he could create

We stuck another in his back and sealed creation's fate

You're in the 12th grade aren't you?, how about learning to type like a professional.

Maybe 'den' you'd get somewhere lol.

@ kik_freek:

If you're looking at the animation/art side of things, you can take a look at institutes such as Qantm College, JMC Academy, and DigiPen Institute, for starters.
Being in the 12th, what you "need " at the very basic level is a good enough mark in your finals to meet University entry requirements, which'll vary by country and institute. But it also helps if you have some previous knowledge or experience with any of the packages like 3DS Max, Maya, Photoshop, etc.
Other than that, I think you should be fine.

Coming to programming, yes, it's a great field to be in, but you really need to have a passion for it, as well as loads of patience and being able to work really hard. If you're specifically looking at programming for games, you'll also be much better off with good Math and Physics skills from high school.
Some institutes (again depending on country/Uni) will require a certain percentage in a Math/Physics/both subject for admission purposes, so check that out carefully.
There's also Software Engineering degrees if you're interested in getting a good balance between programming and design knowledge and aim to develop business apps rather than games.
It helps if you at the very least have some knowledge of general programming concepts in any language you may have used at school or home, but these are normally covered in one or more first year subjects anyway, so you shouldn't have to worry about it too much.

And lastly as mentioned above, don't expect to be able to get a solid animation/games job here in Dubai/UAE anytime soon as it is indeed a very dry industry out here at the moment, but that might change in the future.

Ok, so you can do a BCs degree in India or wherever and then still do a course after that. For eg: my Uni. has a "Masters in Games & Simulation Programming", which is essentially the same units we do in the Bachelors,
with a lil' extra project work. It's made for folks who do some sort of Computing degree and then want to get into Games/Simulation. There should be other institutes offering similar stuff, as well as stuff related to art/animation, all over the world.

However, note that you don't actually need to do a BCs. degree first in order to get into programming/games/animation. Most Unis (abroad) have "majors" or "specialisations" within their BCs. degree, which allows you to study
things like games, software engg., computer security, networking, etc. etc., so if you think about it, you can actually get into doing what you like/want to do straight after your 12th. That's precisely what I've just done.

Jobs...ATM, you'll be looking at places in USA, Australia, UK, and other European countries if you're thinking of games and the big companies. If you're thinking of just animation, you could probably add India to the list of those countries as well.
